This painting project took a lot longer than anticipated and is still in the process of being completed. We do not own much furniture so painting has been on our first project on the "To Do" list with each room. The brown in this room made the room so dark and gloomy, so I decided to lighten it up a bit with the same paint color we used in the foyer. Don't get me wrong, I love the color brown but it just wasn't my cup of tea in this room. The trim needed to be done as well, which meant painting the door and the window...ugh what a process. The trim looked like it hadn't been painted since the house was built 20 years ago. It definitely needed some TLC. As soon as the trim was done, I couldn't believe how it brightened up the room. I just love the color we chose. My goal is to paint all the doors and trim the same color throughout the house as I go. There are dings and stains, so this white really covers those up.
The walls took about two days to paint (lots of speckling and sanding old holes and marks). I have to say, I am more than happy with the results. The fireplace really pops now. The only items left to do are changing out all the outlets/switches and air vents to white and replacing the carpet..but that will take a little more time. We are debating what flooring to put where the foyer opens up to the family room and where the fish tank is placed. I would love to get hardwood, but that might have to be the 10-year plan. Projects add up fast and take so much time, we might just have to put in a Berber carpet instead. You wouldn't believe the stains and marks on the current carpeting.

Paint color:
Walls - Sherwin Williams, Amazing Gray
As you can see there are paint swatches on the wall in the kitchen. This is next on the paint list. I am very excited. I can't wait to get that orange color covered. I think that color looks great in other homes, but not ours...it really make the entire kitchen look orange and accentuates the floor color and make the tiles look pink. We personally love more neutral colors. Some colors we love for this space are Sherwin Williams, Rainwashed and Intellectual Gray (one shade darker above Amazing Gray). We are looking forward to seeing the final results.
Have a great weekend :)
